Two neighborhoods, two starting points
Brightwood homes are about 1,730 to 2,150 square feet, and Willowcrest homes about 2,280 to 2,560. Smaller yards usually get a cover sized to the back slab and a bit beyond. Larger Willowcrest yards can justify a longer cover that shades both the slab and a paver extension.
Size it for the afternoon
Sun at noon is overhead; sun at 5 p.m. comes in low. A west-facing yard needs the deepest cover and often a side screen. Ask each installer how far the cover should extend for your yard's direction.
County permit and HOA
Patio covers need a Riverside County building permit with engineering. Amber Valley has an HOA, which Lennar describes as having low dues. Get the design guidelines from your HOA's management company before you collect quotes, and don't schedule work until approval is in writing. See our permits and HOA guide.
Common questions
How soon after closing can I add a cover?
Once you have HOA approval and a county permit. Approval can take several weeks, so submit early.
Insulated or solid aluminum?
Insulated panels keep the space cooler and make fans and lights easy to add. Solid aluminum costs less and still blocks direct sun.
